Celebrating our 80th year

This season, we celebrate 80 years of bringing today’s brightest minds to the stage in Springfield. Not only does the Springfield Public Forum give you access to world-renowned speakers as they discuss today’s most pressing issues, it does so entirely free of charge—and that is worth celebrating.

This year’s program is truly worthy of our 80th year, with topics and speakers appealing to all ages and interests. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor will address some of our nation’s key legal challenges, while PBS’s Mark Shields and David Brooks prepare us for the 2016 election. We would also like to invite your family to hear paleontologist Paul Sereno and author and youth advocate Wes Moore.

The Forum will also continue to offer two programs designed to take the conversations that begin on stage into the community at large: ForumThinks and Forum Scholars. ForumThinks events include book discussion groups, documentary screenings, and panel discussions and are co-hosted by schools and organizations throughout the region to further explore each speaker topic. Our Forum Scholars program provides 20 students from local high schools the opportunity to conduct guided research on each Forum topic with the help of our staff. On the day of each event, our young scholars meet with the speakers for a private question and answer session.

Your annual membership support is critical to our ability to bring world-class speakers to Springfield and provide meaningful programming in our schools and communities—all free of charge. If you are not a member already, please consider adding your support during this exciting year!
